Decision on End of the Parchi System on Toll Plazas and introduction of a Digital System in Punjab

On 14th October 2025, the Punjab Government has decided to end the old Parchi System at Toll Plazas and introduce a Digital system. This shift seeks to make payments hastily, fairer, and more effective. By moving to digital, the government hopes to reduce corruption, cut detainments, and simplify travel for people across Punjab.

1. Current Toll Tax Payment System in Punjab

At present, the Toll Tax Payment System in Punjab uses a homemade Parchi System. Motorists hand over cash, admit a paper slip, and move on. This system frequently leads to long ranges, staying time, and occasional confusion.

2. Preface of the Digital Toll Tax System

Under the new digital system, vehicles will pay sacrifices electronically — using cards, online payments, etc.

Digital bills will replace paper slips, and each sale will be recorded digitally. This change will speed up risk forecourts and ameliorate responsibility.

3. Benefit of the New Digital Toll System

The digital system will:

  • Reduce staying time and energy waste

  • Cut down on cash running and mortal error

  • Give authorities real-time data on business and profit

  • Make road planning easier

  • Increase translucency and reduce the chances of corruption

6. Downsides of the Old Toll System

Still, the homemade system:

  • Braked business

  • Wasted energy

  • Demanded proper oversight

  • Was prone to crimes and abuse

Numerous risk forecourts had no real-time monitoring, which allowed mishandling of finances.

7. Current Estimated Toll Rates in Punjab

The estimated rates of toll tax rates currently in Punjab are as follows:

  • Buses & Jeeps: Rs. 60

  • Hiace / Carts: Rs. 120

  • Minibuses / Coasters: Rs. 120

  • Motorcars: Rs. 300

  • Loaders / Exchanges / Dumpers / Volley (2–3 Axle): Rs. 360

  • Exchanges / Campers (above 3 Axle): Rs. 600

These rates reflect the parochial sacrifices in Punjab under the Ring Road Authority, not motorway or public transport sacrifices.
