I am sharing the Ruling on the Combination of Casual Leave with Holidays. These rules of leave with holidays are as per the authority of Home Affairs Division’s Office Memorandum No. 9/1/53-Public dated 24th April 1953. The details are as follows:
Combination of Casual Leave with Holidays
As per the Notification, there are three conditions for the combination of leaves with holidays: These are as under:
- Casual Leave may be prefixed or suffixed to a closed or optional holiday
- Casual Leave may be sandwiched between two closed or optional holidays
- However, if a closed or optional holiday falls between two days of casual leave, it should also be counted as casual leave.
Explanation with Examples
Option One – Leaves before or After Holidays
An employee can get leave either before or after holidays. Holidays will not be counted as leave. For example

Option Two – Leave Between Holidays
We see in the example below that if leaves fall between holidays, holidays are not counted as leave.

Option Three: Holidays Between Leaves
If a holiday falls between leaves, the holiday will be counted as leave.

Summary of the Rules
Keeping in view the above examples, I hope you have understood the whole story of getting leave with Holidays/Vacation. It is better to try not to get leave before the start of a long vacation/holidays, as it will be a big loss of leave if you have to get leave again after vacation/holidays. You can get leave before holidays or after holidays and even between holidays, but if you get the leave before and after holidays, your holidays will also be converted into leave.
