History of Medical Allowance Rates for BPS-01 to BPS-22 Employees

I am sharing the Medical Allowance Rates since 1991 for the government employees of BPS-01 to BPS-22. Initially, the BPS-16 and above government employees were not entitled to the Medical Allowance; however, they were granted the Medical Allowance for the first time with effect from 1st July 2026. The details are as follows:

New Entrants 15% of the initial of 2008 Pay Scales

Minimum Medical Allowance no less than Rs. 1000/- per month

8 01-07-2014 BPS-01 to BPS-15 Rs. 1200/- Per Month
9 01-7-2015 BPS-01 to BPS-15 Rs. 1500/- per month

 

BPS-16 to BPS-22 25% increase in the existing Medical Allowance being drawn on 30-06-2015

Medical Allowance for Gazetted Staff and New Entrants

Note that the Gazetted Employees of BPS-16 and above were not allowed any Medical Allowance prior to 01-07-2016. They were granted a medical allowance for the first time, wef 1st July 2016 @ 15% of their running basic pay. The new entrants in government service are eligible to get Medical Allowance 15% of the initial of 2008 Basic Pay Scales but not less than 1000/-. However, they will also get an increase in Medical Allowance @ 25% of the existing Medical Allowance as on 30-06-2015.
